Rhine falls

I'm sitting on the border of Switzerland and Germany, in the middle of nowhere, with some Swiss cows. At least I think they're Swiss. They might be German but just come to this side to work. One of the challenges set by Anne was to get a photo with some Swiss cows. I think I'll have more opportunities later but snapped a pretty ordinary photo just I'm case.

It's a bit windy today and the mornings have been fairly chilly. The landscape has been spectacular but since yesterday afternoon and so far today it has been really hilly. It reminds me of that musical, The Sound of Screaming. I've been doing quite a lot of muttering and some shouting. The hills seem smaller if you shout at them. I kicked one. It is embarrassing when other cyclists are behind me though.

I got to the Rhine falls near Shaffhausen today. They were one of the places I'd marked on my map before I left. I'd written "bloody big waterfall with a castle". The castle sits on one side of the falls and I don't think it is a legitimate castle. It looked pretty modern and had an elevator down to the waterfall. The waterfall was indeed bloody big. It isn't tall, it's the sheer volume of water falling that makes it impressive. It looks like the model for every hotel swimming pool that wants an artificial waterfall.

I've left Shaffhausen now and am writing my blog before I go back into Germany.

Thanks to the people who have contributed to the gofundme. I didn't expect people to be so generous. I was  hoping to get mum and dad into a bidding war, but so far it isn't working.

If anyone else wants to give me money, please do!

Hopefully the pictures work:
Laufhausen
Track I went bush bashing on
River
Fahrt in an elevator
Rhinefalls
Swiss cows

Maybe not in that order.

  1. You're right about it being a pretty ordinary photo- where are the cow bells to prove they are Swiss? It'll do for now though, at least you tried!

  2. I tried to lure them closer but they weren't having it! If you zoom in and squint I'm sure you can make out the bell
