As the title says, today has been a write off. I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning. Partially because it was cold, partially because I didn't sleep well last night. My bike has a suspicious bulge in the back tyre so I decided to use that as an excuse to stay put.
A bloke here told me about a bike shop in the next town, 7km away, so I rode there to get the bike fixed. Like the French, the Germans have 3 hour long lunches so I had to wait for 2 hours for the shop to open. I went into a restaurant to have lunch while I waited as I couldn't find a supermarket. The menu had about 50 things on it, each with about 15 words, all in German. It was too much so I left. Gordon Ramsay needs to go in there and say borderline racist things until they trim it back.
When 3pm rolled around the guy pulled up and told me the bike shop isn't open today. The sign says open Mon-Fri but down the bottom it apparently says in German "not Wednesday but". So now I have to go back tomorrow. I'm going to pay him the start and the finish of the price but not the middle bit, in keeping with his stupid sign.
So I've wasted a day. I couldn't find anything else open so I haven't eaten. I'm at the little shop attached to the campground waiting for them to start serving food. I have a new favourite beer, called Tannen Zapfle. The a in zapfle has two dots above it. Apparently it was in Inglorious Bastards, and Brad Pitt liked it so much it was the only beer he served at his wedding. I know this because the locals are very proud of this tidbit and share it/wear shirts about it.
Also, people drive tractors like they're cars here.
