Kampot

I've spent the last week in and around Kampot. It is a really nice town. I had 2 nights at a party hostel. The first night was fun but the second night was shaping up to be a carbon copy of the first so I went for a walk along the river instead - something I've since been told you shouldn't do at night on your own. I didn't feel unsafe at all. There were way more attractive victims doing the same thing so I figured I'd be right.

On St Patrick's day I went to a place called Arcadia. It is a waterpark of sorts about 7km out of Kampot. There is a bar on the water and various ways to launch yourself from the bar into the water. There was a slide, rope swing, jumping pillow thing, Russian swing and various jumping platforms. It was also run by Irish people, so the party for St Patrick's day was huge.

The last few days I've been at a place just a little bit outside Kampot. It's a small little Guesthouse. A couple of days ago I took a scooter up Bokor Mountain for a look around. The ride up was really nice but at the top it was pouring with rain. I had to take shelter in a temple a couple of times because the rain was too heavy. The clouds also ruined the view.

Once I got to the top I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do. I found a waterfall but it wasn't flowing. So really I found some rocks. They charged me an entrance fee though. There was what looked like an old hotel that was half constructed. I think it might actually be a palace. I wandered around in there for a while. It would make an excellent paintball course.

I also visited a place called 100 rice paddies, which deceptively was actually a rock formation. It wasnt that good, except that people had piled stones on the rocks. It was still pretty rubbish though.

Last night I was sleeping and I felt something on my leg. I half woke when whatever it was that was touching me started to crawl onto me. It was big too, like a toddler size. I naturally assumed it was a giant spider so I kicked out with my mighty legs and launched this thing across the room. As its silhouette flew past the window I realised it was actually a dog.

I'm now in Phnom Penh. I wrote all that other stuff yesterday. It's 6am and I'm freezing because these English gits I'm sharing this room with have the air conditioning set to 'London Summer'. Might as well get up and head to the killing fields.

  1. I never heard of Kampot or Arcadia - guess it wasn't on the backpacker trail when I was there. Looks like fun.
