Koh Rong, Kampot

I got the ferry over to Koh Rong and spent 2 nights there. The hostel was on an isolated part of the island. It was in the jungle with its own little beach. I spent the full day I had there in a hammock - a good 9 hours - reading a book. There isn't really much else to say.

Except that both mornings I woke up with rat shit on the corner of my bed next to my head. On the second night there was a strange screaming from the bunk above me that freaked everyone out. I'd say there was a rats nest somewhere in the top of the wall. For a second I thought the guy above me was having night terrors.

I came back from Koh Rong yesterday and started feeling ill. I went to bed at 4 yesterday afternoon and slept until 8 this morning. I started getting bad stomach cramps so I went on google and found out I have pretty much all the diseases I was vaccinated against.

I hopped on the bus to Kampot today and a girl I'd met a week ago was on there who had also been to Koh Rong. She asked how it was and I mentioned that I think I got sick there and she said she did as well. Three other people heard this and all said they had gotten sick there as well, and described my symptoms exactly. They seem to think it was the food, but I stayed on a different part of the island and only ate at the hostel, so I reckon it was maybe the seawater, or possibly even the drinking water/ice. I think that comes from the same supplier across the entire island.

I just went for a little walk through Kampot to find food and the place looks nice. They seem to have an abundance of fairly average statues. There is a nice promenade along the river. I found food, ate and the stomach cramps returned.

I came back to the hostel and did a poo. It smelled atrocious. I shut the door and that kept the smell contained, but shortly after a girl came into the room and went to use the toilet. I was watching her as she opened the door and her head dipped into her shoulder as the smell hit her and she turned around. Our eyes met and I knew that she knew I was responsible for that. She very slowly walked back past, got some deodorant and went back in and shut the door. I could hear her spraying but she only lasted 5 or 6 seconds. She's laying on the bed across from me right now. The other toilet became free but she hasn't gotten up to use it.

In my defense, poo does smell. This is a known thing. I also did it in the toilet. I could have done in on the floor or in the swimming pool but I chose the best place for it. I'd have sprayed some spray but there wasn't any and my deodorant is roll on. I also didn't leave the door open to let the smell escape, unlike her. Plus, she doesn't know for sure it was me. I mean, she knows, but only because I was the only person awake in here. It could just as easily been someone who entered to use the toilet then immediately left, or the sleeping girl. I'm hoping I get a chance to frame someone for it.

Anyway, hopefully I'm better tomorrow and can go scooting around.

An example of craftsmanship. This one is the Vietnamese Friendship Monument I believe.
