Murg to Rudlingen

My internet doesn't work in Germany. I didn't realise that so I couldn't post my blog until today.

On Saturday I went into this little restaurant and had a schnitzel. The place was fairly quiet so the brother and sister who owned the place came and chatted to me. They are half German half Scottish. So they spoke a rare brand of English. You could hear the Scottish in their accent. Some of their mates were also there so they joined us and at some point it became a lock in. They were right in to Nick Cave and John Butler so we had that cranking.

After a while we decided to go to another pub down the road, where they told me about a tradition in southern Germany called food shopping. I doubt that's how it is spelt but when I'd say that people understood. Food shopping is when all the men of the town get together at 10am and drink beer until lunch, then have lunch, go home and go to sleep. I thought this was an excellent tradition. I vowed to take it back to Australia with me but demanded a demonstration, so we invited  everyone in the pub to his restaurant for food shopping the next day.

The next day I woke up at 5pm. I didn't get to see food shopping. Thankfully nobody showed up. I'd say they were all feeling as bad as I was.

Today I left and continued along the Rhine. The route I was following was blocked at one point so I stopped for lunch. Germany is much cheaper than France. The restaurant food is more to my liking - meat. But I do miss French bread and cheese.

I managed to get on the internet at lunch and decided to cross the river into Switzerland. I foolishly didn't think to buy groceries while I was in Germany so I'm just going to go hungry tonight. Switzerland is expensive. I'm at a section where Switzerland extends across the river as well so I can't just cross over to get food. I'll try to finish my days on the German side from now on.

Pictures are:
Ninoo, one of the blokes from Saturday night. He was one of the biggest scariest men I've met but turned out to be a big friendly giant.

One of two Aussie flags I saw at different houses today.

I don't know if you can see that, but the top sticker says Gute Fahrte. I took a photo for Aunty Julie because I know she enjoys a gute fahrte.

The river.

The river at Laffenburg. It was very nice but difficult to take a good photo. That's the best I could do.

If you want to give me money it will go to a terrible cause. So far I have to do a nudie run and a act of kindness to some refugees. So a nudie run in front of some refugees.

  2. No pics in this post dude. And it doesn't HAVE to be a nudie run. I am picturing naked back on of you from a snowy swiss mountain top lookout. Unfortunately this means some other poor sod will have to be there to take the pic. Nakidity is a crime in most places and I'd hate to see you get ejaculated from a country before your trip is finished.

  3. Oh, I'll have to post the pictures again.

My internet plan is supposed to work in Switzerland, but you're right, if I'm on the German side of a mountain it connects to a German tower and I get no internet. I saw some Swiss cows yesterday and started to stop to get a photo. They look like highland cows, which I guess makes sense
