Manila Mult

I found out why the lady was giving me the stink eye. It's because I'm camped in someone else's spot. Or more accurately, someone was camped in my spot. When I got here it was empty so I set up then the bloke came back all confused. I'm definitely in the right place though because I went to pay for another night and pitch 15 said Manila Mult, which is my French name.

For some reason everyone turns to the uk visa page of my passport instead of the main page. They don't know English so they think 'Place of issue' is my first name and 'Number of entries' is my second name. So my name is Manila Mult. I kind of like it.

It rained heavily all night last night. I decided to stay another day. Partially because it's still raining on and off and partially so I can figure out what to do from Mont Saint-Michel. I might wash some clothes if the sun comes out as well. Probably not though.

I doubt I'll have anything to write later so this is my blog post for today.

For some reason this didn't upload today so I'll update. Today I spent reading and figuring out what to do next.

Options are:

Heading to Tours by train and cycling to Orleans along the Loire river, which I had marked on the map as "seems like a nice place for a bike ride".

Ditching the bike and heading straight to Germany by train.

Going somewhere else in France - suggestions welcome.

Making my way to San Sebastian in Spain, ditching the bike, flying to Zurich.

Ditching the bike, city hopping by bus and train to Germany, preferably on overnight services.

I am so indecisive. I feel guilty about ditching the bike even though it was always on the cards. By tomorrow I'll have cycled around 800km. On one hand it will be nice to make it to 1000km, but on the other hand it's raining and 800km is still pretty good. It hasn't even felt that hard, probably because that averages out at less than 40km a day...

  1. Haha "Manila Mult". Brilliant.

San Sebastian is nice, my fav city in Europe. But it's a bit out of your way and not in the right direction. You need to start heading East not South.

Seems like the wrong idea to be ditching your bike. Then again, it might be right decision if you wanna make it back to Oz overland. But there's something romantic about being the road warrior with his bike and his tent, what else does he need?

Tours -> Orleans is in the right direction. Maybe pick a Tour de France route and see if you can do that along the way too.

    1. I'll have to have a look. I've been on the tour route at various stages. I only know because of the writing left on the road. Is the tour over yet? I should try and intercept it somewhere. I was on the Paris Brest Paris route today. One of the cyclists was on my train too. Cheating bastard.

  2. 40K per day on a bike, it's no wonder it didn't seem hard the whole time. It'll probably never "seem" hard for the rest of your life after this adventure.
