Alva Beach to Townsville

I spent last night at Alva Beach, out on the coast from Ayr. There is a village there with a tourist park and nothing else. No shop, no post office, nothing. I was hoping to buy some fresh food but had to eat muesli bars and canned food.

Alva Beach is a popular spot for dive tours, as it is close to the Yongala Wreck. Good thing too, as the beach, at least where I went this morning, was very ordinary. It was on the mouth of a creek and had a muddy bottom and was windy as. The tourist park website has an amazing picture of people camped by the water as the sun goes down over the ocean. But the beach is about 700 metres away.

The permanent and long term residents of the tourist park were really nice though. Seven or eight of them came up while I was packing this morning to see how I fit everything in (I should point out here that I had no room for my new camera so I wore it around my neck). One came up to see if I knew anyone that wanted to buy his antique Suzuki motorbike. If so he was in cabin 21. I'm not sure who he thought I'd know that'd come knock on the door of cabin 21 and buy his bike. But now you know where he is if you're interested.

The ride to Townsville was uneventful. Finding the hotel I'm staying at was difficult. It is up in a hilly part of town, on Hale St. The problem is Hale St turns into other streets then back into Hale St repeatedly. I'm at this hotel tonight then in a hostel for another 3 nights.
