I went for a ride through Rockhampton trying to figure out what to do with myself. The fact I deemed the following photo worth taking made me realise I probably need to get out of Rockhampton.
I decided to go for a ride to Yeppoon, on the coast. It wasn't a bad ride, about 40km. It looks like there is a lot of money in Yeppoon. Nice houses and at one point I was overtaken by an Audi R8. The town is built on some hills and it and a few other coastal hamlets have grown into one town.
I visited Yeppoon Lagoon and was disappointed to see that it was actually a big infinity pool. I thought it was a natural lagoon. To be fair, it looked pretty nice but it was cold and overcast so I didnt even stop.

Today I didn't do much, just washed some clothes. This place I'm staying has an interesting mix of older people in vans and younger backpackers from Australia or abroad passing through. Each evening everyone meets for happy hour.
The grey nomads seem to have an introduction ritual where they discuss their van battery charge. An important topic in these unpowered camps. I haven't seen what happens if anyone has less than 12.7 volts but I'd imagine they'd be shunned. Then they have a few drinks and if they drink enough the topic turns to Muslims or politics or both.
Seriously, the most boring topics of conversation. It is the equivalent of being in a hostel and someone bringing up Donald Trump, who bizzarely hasn't rated a mention here. If you can catch them in between battery talk and Muslim talk they aren't bad company, but I tend to stick with the younger crowd.
There is a couple here from Passau in Germany, where I rode my bike. I like it when people tell me where they're from not expecting me to know it. Quite a few poms have passed through and there is a couple from Grafton at the moment as well. The guy from Grafton told us last night he used to work with Brendon Tarrant which was a handy signal that it was time for bed.
I'm really keen to get back on the road.
