Almost Bowen to Alva Beach.

I didn't do much the last few days. Stayed at the farmstay place near Bowen for 3 nights. The lady that runs the place offered me a job and I happily declined. The lady at the place in Mackay offered me work as well.

There was an older couple in a caravan next to me who were both teachers. They were older than me but virtually youngsters at that camp. The bloke was actually a principal in Victoria and said he'd hook me up with some days when I get that far. Talking to him he sounds like a fairly good principal too.

A couple of days ago I went into Bowen for a look. It is a nice town. I took a bunch of photos from Flagstaff Hill and went down to Horseshoe Bay, which was really nice. The wind has been outrageous and the tide was a long way out so I didn't go for a swim. My photos were pretty ordinary so I spent yesterday researching cameras.

Was set on a bridge camera but couldn't decide which one, so had a look at entry level dslr cameras and they are cheaper and essentially better. So I bought a Nikon d3500.

Today I packed up fairly quickly then got stuck transferring game of thrones to one of the grey nomads. It appears my usb dongle no longer works. When I was leaving someone mentioned that in qld p platers don't have speed limit restrictions, so today I could go 100 and found out exactly how annoying people going 90 are.

I was stuck behind 2 caravans and had another 20 or so cars behind me. When I finally got the chance to overtake I pinned it and was fairly happy when the bike leapt up to 130kph really quickly. I make fun of the bike being slow but at the end of the day it is still a motorbike and still accelerates hard, compared to most cars at least.

I picked up my new camera from Harvey Norman in Ayr and had no way to stow it without unpacking the bike. So I stuffed it down the front of my jacket for the 20km ride to Alva Beach. I'm now at the tourist park (expensive) waiting for it to charge. And the internet doesn't work so this post is a day late.

  1. Dunno what a bridge camera is but man, a DSLR takes up a lot of space. But at least you'll have some fun learning with it.

Me I pretty much never use my "big" mirrorless camera nowadays and didn't even pack it for my latest trip, it's just the iPhone X nowadays.

  2. A bridge camera is basically a dslr style fixed lens camera. They have smaller sensors so the fixed lens usually has a massive zoom. Like 60x to 130x.

The dslr is fairly light and small for a dslr. Definitely entry level. I bought a little bag from kmart that fits it nicely. Should be good fun to learn on but I really need to stop adding cumbersome items to my baggage. Might get some tank panniers in Cairns so I can shift some weight forward.
